Room 317, Saturday Morning

The day before, Z had decided to try to get to know nature, and then she was out in the preserve and it started raining and some weird little blue-green deer had led her back to their cave, where she managed to start a fire. Then she spent the rest of the night reading aloud from a copy of Amleth one of them dropped in her lap. It seemed to please them.

She finally stumbled back to her room sometime around dawn, wanting nothing more than to sleep for a week and never see any cute little woodland creatures again. But when she opened the door to room 317, she was surprised to find stuff in there that wasn't there before. "This isn't my room," she said blearily. Then she leaned back outside to check the room number. "Wait...wait...this is my room."

Luke pulled his head out from under his pillow. "Please don't eat me," he muttered.

"Oh, for the last time, mutants don't eat people," Z said crankily. "You must be the new roommate."

"You're a mutant?" Luke sat up, hair sticking out in all directions.

Pause.

"What's a mutant?"

"Superpowers," Z said as she stripped off her damp uniform, too tired to care too much about modesty. The uniform meant she smelled unfortunately of wet wool. "Means I've got superpowers."

"Oh," Luke said, running a hand through his hair and making things much, much worse. "Me too." He smiled. "I'm Luke Skywalker."

"Z Delgado. Are you related to my old flight teacher?"

Luke frowned. "I don't know. What was your flight teacher's name?"

"He was a Skywalker, too." Z took a hairbrush to her hair, attempting to make it look semi-decent again, or at least get some of the twigs out. After a few moments' frustration, she made a replicate, who sighed, took the hairbrush, and started patiently untangling her double's hair. It was much better when someone else did it. "Anakin Skywalker," she added finally.

Luke was staring at the duplicate and completely missed what Z had said. "Um," he said, flailing his arm spastically. "Um..."

"I did mention the superpowers, didn't I?" the Z who was having her hair brushed asked.

"I didn't think you meant cloning yourself!" Luke squeaked. "How many girls could I be sharing a room with?"

"Just one," said the hairbrush-wielding replicate. "She'll reabsorb me when I'm done."

"They're very useful," said the original Z.

Luke's eyes were still unnaturally wide. "I'll bet," he said finally. "I've been told not to eat your four-eyed salmon," Luke continued. "Anything else I should know?"

Z turned to look at her replicate and reabsorbed her. "Okay, first off, apparently it's a delicacy on Aquitar. And I haven't even made it yet. I've been told I play my music kind of loud, and I'm not really used to picking up after myself." Or having stuff to pick up. "And I won't usually wake you up this early, I'm sorry. I had a really bad night. There were deer."

"Deer? And where's Aquitar?" Luke smiled. "I'm from Tatooine."

"Little teal deer. They wanted me to read dramatic monologues to them." Z shrugged.

"Aquitar's the closest inhabited planet with Power Rangers to Earth. Completely covered in water. I've never heard of Tatooine, though."

Luke's head was spinning with all the new concepts.

He grabbed onto one at random. "Power Rangers?"

"Superpowered defenders against evil. Wear a lot of color-coded spandex for some reason. Except I don't think it's actually spandex." Z shrugged.

"Spandex?" Luke echoed.

"Spandex," Z confirmed, not understanding that maybe Luke had no clue what she was talking about.

"Does it help out during the fighting?" Luke asked. "Being color coded?"
